I read The Lincoln Penny and The Lover's Eye back to back. I am more than "a little fond" of the time travel genre and after reading The Lincoln Penny, I needed to read the sequel to find out the rest of the story. However, reading the sequel was like watching every episode of a serialized television drama throughout a season, only to have the show cancelled leaving nothing but unanswered questions. I don't like that when it comes to a TV series but at least I understand that if a show cannot build a sufficient audience, it will probably be cancelled.A book is an entirely different matter. I read two books in this series and there should have been sufficient time for the author to answer some of the critical questions. I gather that there will be many more books in this series but I will not be reading them. While I can understand why an author might want to create a series, this reader is not going to invest any more time in the hope of eventually getting answers.
If I had known in advance that virtually nothing would be explained in book 2, I would never have bothered to read either of them. While the author writes well, I think her approach to dragging things out through multiple future books takes too much advantage of this reader.

Great follow up story to the Lincoln Penny. Loved the history and story line. A must read for time travel fanatics!
Every now and then I come across a book I can't put down. Lover's Eye is the latest. It had the surprises, nail biting twist and turns that just kept coming! A great read. Looking forward to book two.
I love time travel stories. This series is marvelous. I had a great sense of the difference in tines and the storyline was very satisfying. Fully recommend both books.
I'm so glad I chose this series by an author with whom I was not familiar. I chose this series based upon my love of time travel novels, but also based upon the reviews. I was not disappointed. The writer kept me engaged, so much so that I finished the first book in record time and couldn't wait to begin the 2nd book which I just finished. Now I'm going to jump right in for the 3rd which I hope is available now!
I continued to be amazed by the author's knowledge of many past cultures. Each time she took me to a new era or place, she brought the past alive with her brilliant descriptions of people, places and events. My soul connected with the main characters and I felt that I knew and understood them. As characters shared their perspectives, they provided insights into different ways of thinking and living. I found myself reading more slowly as I came toward the end of the book, not wanting to let go of the deeply enriching experience. I look forward to reading much more from Barbara Best.
I have been anxiously awaiting this sequel and have to admit I was really disappointed. I loved the first book and just don't really understand the turns this book took. All of the scenes from the 1500s were confusing at first. It may just be me but I really disliked the back story to the time travel, the island, etc. Not that time travel isn't far fetched but I've read many other books where it's been done much better. If there's a third book, I won't be buying it.
A great sequel. The romance didn't turn out exactly as I had thought it would. We are introduced to new characters, such as White Owl, who contribute greatly to the plot. Other new characters let us know that there's more to this time travel business than just a fluke. I hope we will see more books in this line soon. Great read. Recommend that you read the books in order.
NOTE TO AUTHOR When can we expect the next book? There are a lot of loose threads, so I'm hoping another book is eminent. However, I can see this story going on for several more books. Please give us an update.
